| Sheet | Boxes | Upper bonus | What sets it apart |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic | 13 | +35 at 63 | Full House 25, straights 30 and 40; each extra five-alike +100 |
| Scandinavian | 15 | +50 at 63 | One Pair, Two Pairs; straights are exactly 1-2-3-4-5 (15) and 2-3-4-5-6 (20) |
| Yacht | 12 | +35 at 63 | Choice, not Chance; Four of a Kind and Full House pay the dice total; straights 15 and 30 |
| Generala | 11 | none | Escalera, Full, Póker +5 on the first roll; Generala 50; Doble Generala 100 |
How to fill in the sheet, turn by turn
Write each player's name on the Players line, one column per player, up to six. Everything below happens inside your own column.
- Roll five dice, up to three times per turn. On the second and third roll you set aside the dice you want to keep and re-roll the rest.
- You may stop after any roll. Then you must write the dice into exactly one open box of your column — there is no pass.
- If nothing fits, scratch a box: write 0 in the one you can best afford to lose.
- The upper boxes (Ones to Sixes) count only the dice showing that face: three Fours is 12.
- The match ends when every box in every column is full — 13 turns each on Classic, 15 on Scandinavian, 12 on Yacht, 11 on Generala. Highest total wins; online, equal top totals share the win, so agree a tie rule on paper before you start.
Totals and the bonus check
When the upper section is full, add Ones through Sixes and write the sum in Upper total. If it is 63 or more, write the bonus: +35 on Classic and Yacht, +50 on Scandinavian. Generala has no upper bonus, so its sheet has no Bonus row. 63 is exactly three of every face (3 × 21), so a column of three Ones, three Twos and so on lands on the line.
Lower total is every lower box plus, on Classic, any +100 Yatzy bonuses; Total is Upper total + Bonus + Lower total. The Yatzy bonus row sits above Lower total, so count it once. The bonus is not a given: in 800 simulated Classic games per level our steady (medium) bot reached 63 in about 16% and the sharp (hard) bot in about 43% — see the strategy guide for chasing it.
A real Classic column, filled in
One finished column from a real bot match run on the game's engine on 30 October 2026. It is not a perfect game — Four of a Kind and Small Straight were scratched — which makes it a fair model of a normal column.
| Box | Written | How it got there |
|---|---|---|
| Ones | 1 | one 1 |
| Twos | 4 | two 2s |
| Threes | 9 | three 3s |
| Fours | 12 | three 4s |
| Fives | 15 | three 5s |
| Sixes | 24 | four 6s |
| Upper total | 65 | 1 + 4 + 9 + 12 + 15 + 24 |
| Bonus | +35 | 65 is at least 63 |
| Three of a Kind | 26 | total of all five dice |
| Four of a Kind | 0 | scratched |
| Full House | 25 | fixed 25 |
| Small Straight | 0 | scratched |
| Large Straight | 40 | fixed 40 |
| Yatzy | 50 | five alike |
| Chance | 27 | total of all five dice |
| Lower total | 168 | 26 + 0 + 25 + 0 + 40 + 50 + 27 |
| Total | 268 | 65 + 35 + 168 |
No second Yatzy came, so the Yatzy bonus row stays empty. For scale, perfect play on this Classic rule set averages about 255 points with a spread of nearly 60 (T. Verhoeff, TU Eindhoven), so 268 is a good game, not an outlier.
Scorekeeping mistakes that change the winner
- Paying the bonus at 62. The line is 63. An upper total of 62 earns nothing.
- Paying +100 after a scratched Yatzy. On Classic the +100 is paid only if the Yatzy box already holds 50; if you wrote 0 there, a later five-alike earns no bonus. When it does pay, the joker is forced: the roll goes into its own upper box if open (five Fours = 20 in Fours), else into any open lower box at its full value, and only when every lower box is full too, into an open upper box for 0.
- Mixing up "all dice" and "those dice". Classic Three and Four of a Kind pay the total of all five dice; Scandinavian pays only the matching dice (three 5s = 15); Yacht Four of a Kind, and the Full House on Scandinavian and Yacht, pay all five dice (Classic Full House is a flat 25).
- Calling five alike a Full House. It scores 0 there on every sheet; the only way in is the Classic joker.
- Scoring the wrong straight. Classic and Yacht Small Straight is any four in a row. The Scandinavian one is exactly 1-2-3-4-5 for 15, and 2-3-4-5-6 is worth 0 in that box. On Generala, Escalera also accepts the ace-high 3-4-5-6-1.
- Misreading the Generala bonus. The first-roll +5 applies to Escalera, Full and Póker only (25, 35, 45), never to the Generala box. Doble Generala (100) needs the Generala box to hold 50. Some tables let a first-roll Generala win outright; the online game does not, so settle that house rule first. Full sheets: Generala rules, Yacht rules.
Printing tips
The PDFs are A4 portrait, one page, margins built in. On US Letter paper choose "fit to page" in the print dialog so the bottom Total row is not cut off. Print one sheet per match: it holds up to six players, and every box is written once, so a rematch needs a fresh page.
Or let the screen keep score
No dice or no printer? The online game adds for you. After each roll every open box shows in green what the dice would score there, the Bonus row counts your upper section toward 63. The host picks which of the four sheets the table plays, and all four are free.

So what do you do with this: print the sheet that matches your rule set, write the names on the Players line, and end every turn with exactly one number, or a 0, in one box. Check the bonus at 63, never 62, and settle the extra-Yatzy rule before the first roll. To plan turns, read the Yatzy rules and the odds; to skip the paper, play Yatzy online.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I download a printable Yatzy score sheet?
This page has four free PDFs: Classic (13 boxes), Scandinavian (15), Yacht (12) and Generala (11). Each is one A4 portrait page with a Players line, six player columns and a one-line rule under every box. Pick the one that matches the rules you play.
How do you add up a Yatzy score sheet?
Add the six upper boxes (Ones to Sixes) into Upper total. If that is 63 or more, add the bonus: +35 on Classic and Yacht, +50 on Scandinavian, none on Generala. Then add the lower boxes, plus any +100 Yatzy bonuses on Classic, and combine Upper total + Bonus + Lower total.
What do I write when no box fits my dice?
Scratch a box by writing 0 in it. You must write in exactly one open box every turn, so there is no passing, and that box is closed for the rest of the match. In our bot matches the most-zeroed Classic boxes are Yatzy and Four of a Kind.
Do I get +100 for a second Yatzy on the Classic sheet?
Only if the Yatzy box already holds 50. If you scratched it with a 0, later five-alikes earn no +100. When the bonus is paid, the roll must go into its own upper box if that is open, otherwise into any open lower box at full value, and only when every lower box is full into an open upper box for 0.
Can I print the Yatzy score sheet on US Letter paper?
Yes. The PDFs are laid out for A4 portrait, so on US Letter choose "fit to page" in the print dialog to keep the Total row on the page. One sheet holds up to six players for one match.
Is there an online Yatzy score card that adds everything up?
Yes. In the online game each open box shows its score in green after a roll, the card tracks your upper section toward the 63-point bonus and keeps the running total. The host of the table chooses the Classic, Scandinavian, Yacht or Generala sheet, and all four are free.
