Online Games for Large Groups: Free Tables for Up to 6
The best online games for large groups here are the ones that seat up to six people at one table: Claimridge, Color Match, Categories, Word Duel, Rummy, Estates, Sugar Duel and Yatzy. One honest limit up front: a table seats at most 6, so a bigger crowd splits into two tables. Everything is free, in the browser, with no download.
Pick by the mood of the group
Do not pick by the game's reputation. Pick by what your group will actually do for the next half hour.
- Loud and fast: Color Match, Categories, Sugar Duel. A round is over in minutes and nobody waits long for a turn.
- Thinking and planning: Claimridge, Estates, Rummy. Slower, with trading, building or melds to argue about.
- Words and dice: Word Duel and Yatzy. Easy to explain to the one person who has never played.
The tables at a glance
Lengths are medians of finished matches on the site, October to November 2026. They are what real tables took, not a promise for yours.
| Game | Seats | Typical length | Talking needed? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Color Match (card shedding) | 2-6 | about 71 seconds a match | Little. Groans, mostly. |
| Categories (Name Place Animal Thing) | 2-6 | about 4 minutes | A lot, when answers get compared |
| Sugar Duel (match-3 race) | 2-6 | about 4 minutes | None. Everyone plays at once. |
| Word Duel | 2-6 | about 5 minutes | Little |
| Claimridge (settlement and trading) | 2-6 | about 15 minutes | A lot. Trading is the game. |
| Estates (property race) | 2-6 | a 20-round match by default | Some, mostly deals |
| Rummy | 2-6 | not measured | Little |
| Yatzy | 2-6 | not measured | Little |
Fast tables for a crowd that is still arriving
A short match is the right choice when people join over ten minutes. Color Match runs about 71 seconds a match, so latecomers wait one round, not one evening. Our card-shedding guide covers the rules of that family if some of your group has never played it.

Categories and Sugar Duel are the two that run about 4 minutes. Categories is the party pick: a letter comes up, everyone writes an answer for each category, and the arguing starts when answers are compared. We wrote up the folk version in Name Place Animal Thing online.
Slower tables for a long evening
Claimridge is the one to pick when the group wants to negotiate. A median match runs about 15 minutes, and most of that is people trading across the table. Estates is longer: by default it is a 20-round match, and the richest player wins, so start it only when everyone has the time. Our guide to online games with friends compares more options for smaller groups.
How to get six people in with one link
- Open the game and create a room. No signup is needed; guests can host.
- Leave the room open, or switch the toggle to "Link only". Link only hides the room from the lists, and only people with your link can join.
- Press Share and send the link in your group chat.
- Anyone who opens it is seated as a guest. Start when everyone is in.
The 4-seat limit for guest hosts
A room owned by a guest holds at most 4 seats. Seats 5 and 6 need a registered room owner, which is one Google sign-in. If you want all six chairs, have the person who sets up the room sign in first.
Empty seats and bots
Open seats can be filled by bots, and a match needs only two seats of any kind. A group of five people and one bot is a normal six-seat table.
What happens when someone leaves
In a big group, someone's phone will die. In Claimridge a dropped player gets a 120-second grace period before a bot takes the seat, and the player can reclaim the seat afterwards. If someone is slow rather than gone, the platform hands their turn to a medium bot when the move clock runs out, and a seat that has been idle for 10 cumulative minutes is taken over by a bot. Matches that ended while a bot was playing for someone are never rated. Rated matches also need at least two human seats at the start, so a game against bots alone is for fun.
If your group is bigger than six
Make two tables and race them. Two Claimridge tables on the same map, or two Categories tables with the same rounds, give you a fair comparison at the end. Put one room on "Link only" per table and post a different link for each. If the group is split by skill, put the experienced players on one table and the new ones on the other.
What to do next
Start with a fast table to warm the room up: Color Match or Categories. Move to Claimridge once everyone is seated and wants something longer, or try Word Duel and Rummy for a quieter hour. Check that the host is signed in if you need all six seats.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are good online games for a large group?
Color Match, Categories, Word Duel, Rummy, Estates, Sugar Duel, Yatzy and Claimridge all seat 2 to 6 players. For a quick start pick Color Match (about 71 seconds a match) or Categories (about 4 minutes). For a long evening pick Claimridge (about 15 minutes) or Estates (a 20-round match by default).
How many people can play at one table?
Up to 6 players per table. A room owned by a guest holds 4 seats, and seats 5 and 6 need a registered room owner, which is one Google sign-in.
How do I invite everyone with one link?
Create a room, press Share and send the link. Anyone who opens it is seated as a guest, with no signup. You can set the room to "Link only" so it is hidden from the lists and only people with your link can join.
What if my group has more than 6 people?
Split into two tables and play the same game on both. Compare results afterwards, for example total points in Categories. Create one room per table and send each group its own link.
What happens if a player disconnects in the middle of a match?
In Claimridge, a disconnected seat waits 120 seconds, then a bot takes over, and the player can come back to the seat. A slow player's turn is played by a bot when the move clock runs out.
Do I need to pay or download anything?
No. Every game is free for guests, in the browser, with no signup. Only the 5th and 6th seats require the room owner to be registered.
